Staying One Step Ahead of Scammers: International Fraud Awareness Week

Nov 16, 2025 | 2 Minute Read

At Elkhorn Valley Bank & Trust, protecting our customers is at the heart of what we do. International Fraud Awareness Week (November 16-22, 2025) is a valuable reminder that fraud can happen to anyone—but with the right knowledge and awareness, you can reduce your risk and stay in control of your financial security. Consider the following simple but powerful tips to safeguard your personal information, accounts, and peace of mind.

1. Trust Your Instincts: If It Feels Sketchy… It Probably Is

Fraud attempts often rely on creating urgency, confusion, or pressure. If a message, phone call, link, or request feels “off,” trust your gut. Pause before clicking, responding, or sharing personal information—especially if the communication claims something alarming, like account issues or prize winnings. When in doubt, contact your local EVB branch directly to verify.

2. Keep Your Credentials Private: We Will Never Ask for Your Password

It’s important to remember that Elkhorn Valley Bank will never ask for your password—not by phone, text, email, or social media. If someone contacts you requesting login information, secret codes, or full account numbers, it’s a red flag. Hang up or delete the message, then notify us so we can help protect your account.

3. Stay Alert Beyond Business Hours: Scammers Don’t Take Weekends Off

Fraudsters operate around the clock, so monitoring your accounts regularly is one of the best defenses you have. Check your balances and recent activity often—especially before and after weekends or holidays. If you notice anything unusual, reach out to us right away. Quick reporting allows us to act fast and safeguard your funds.

We’re Here to Help

Fraud prevention is a shared responsibility, and at EVB, we’re committed to making a difference by empowering our customers with the tools and knowledge to stay safe. If you ever have questions or concerns about suspicious activity, don’t hesitate to contact your local branch or our customer service team. Together, we can keep your information secure and your accounts protected.
